The biggest stars on Netflix right now aren’t actors—they’re animated K-pop singers. “K-Pop Demon Hunters” has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide to become the streaming service’s most-viewed film in history, proving that compelling characters and great music can outshine even the most famous of faces.
The film became the audience darling by attracting a massive 236 million views since it debuted in June. This overwhelming popularity allowed it to dethrone “Red Notice,” a blockbuster that relied heavily on the appeal of its three celebrity leads, Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot.
While it is the undisputed fan favorite by view count, it ranks third in terms of total watch time. Its 23 billion minutes viewed is a testament to its massive reach, though it falls short of the totals for the longer films “Red Notice” and “Don’t Look Up.”
The love from audiences has also translated into chart success, with four songs from the film becoming top-10 Billboard hits. A sequel is already in the works to give the film’s devoted fanbase more of the characters and music they adore.
