Trump to Kyiv: Act Now or Risk Losing the Deal

by admin477351

President Donald Trump has told Ukraine to act now on a peace deal or risk losing the opportunity. Trump warned on Thursday that Russia might “change their mind” if negotiations drag on. This advice comes ahead of a meeting in Miami between US and Russian officials.
The weekend talks will involve Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and a Russian delegation. This follows recent discussions in Berlin with Ukrainian representatives. The administration is focused on securing a deal swiftly.
Trump expressed cautious optimism, stating, “They’re getting close to something.” However, he warned that “Every time they take too much time, then Russia changes their mind.” The message is clear: delay could be fatal.
The core issue remains territory. Ukraine has stated it will not cede land, particularly the Donbas, while Russia demands concessions. This fundamental disagreement has been the primary obstacle to peace.
Russia occupies Crimea and parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. The Kremlin is demanding a Ukrainian withdrawal from the Donbas. With US officials reporting that Russia is unwilling to compromise, Trump’s warning highlights the difficult choices facing Ukraine.
