US Tariff Threats Against India ‘Unjustified,’ Says Russia

by admin477351

Russia has publicly declared US President Donald Trump’s tariff threats against India to be “unjustified,” siding with New Delhi in the escalating trade dispute. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on Tuesday that “trying to force countries to stop trading with Russia is illegal,” directly echoing India’s own condemnation of the US’s actions.
The controversy was sparked by a social media post from Trump, who accused India of buying “massive amounts of Russian Oil” and reselling it for a profit. He linked this trade to the Ukraine conflict and threatened to “substantially” raise tariffs on Indian goods, a measure that would follow the 25% tariffs already in effect on August 1.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs also issued a firm response, accusing the US and the European Union of “unjustified and unreasonable” targeting. The statement declared that India would take “all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security,” a clear indication that it would not yield to US pressure.
This diplomatic exchange highlights a growing divide between nations that support Western sanctions and those that prioritize their own economic and strategic interests. Russia’s public support for India solidifies their partnership and challenges the US’s ability to dictate global trade policy.
