In Sweden’s latest parliamentary elections, the political landscape has shifted as the red-green opposition emerged with a slim majority. According to preliminary results, the opposition secured 176 seats in the Riksdag, surpassing the Tidö parties, who garnered 173 seats.
The Social Democrats, leading the opposition, captured 28.0% of the vote, translating to 99 seats. Meanwhile, the Moderates, part of the ruling Tidö coalition, received 19.8% of votes, earning them 70 seats. The Sweden Democrats, also within the Tidö alliance, obtained 17.5% and 62 seats. In contrast, the Left Party, aligning with the opposition, saw an increase, gaining six seats for a total of 30.
Other notable results include the Center Party securing 7.0% of the vote and 25 seats, the Christian Democrats winning 6.2% and 22 seats, the Green Party obtaining 6.1% and also 22 seats, and the Liberals capturing 5.3% of the vote, resulting in 19 seats. The voter turnout stood at a robust 84.8%, a slight increase from the previous election, highlighting a strong public engagement in the political process.
Both the Social Democrats and Sweden Democrats faced significant losses compared to the 2022 election, with declines of eight and 11 seats, respectively. These changes reflect a dynamic political environment in Sweden, where voter preferences and party strengths continue to evolve.
