In a tightly contested match, Greece maintained its lead in the Nations League group by securing a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands in Thessaloniki on Thursday. The Greek side dominated the first half, opening the scoring in the 23rd minute through Fotis Ioannidis, who capitalized on a header from Giorgos Masouras. As the first half drew to a close, Masouras further extended Greece’s advantage with a close-range finish after Ioannidis created the opportunity by exploiting a poor backpass from the Netherlands.
The Netherlands, however, mounted a strong comeback in the second half. Virgil van Dijk narrowed the gap in the 59th minute with a powerful header from Joey Veerman’s corner. Despite Greece’s goalkeeper Konstantis Tzolakis making a crucial late save, the Netherlands managed to draw level in the 89th minute, when Tijjani Reijnders finished from close range.
This result leaves Greece at the top of its group with seven points, maintaining a two-point lead over the Netherlands. Looking ahead, Greece is set to host Germany on Sunday, aiming to continue their strong performance in the tournament.
